Plague Dogs with Bears

When i read the reports about the Brown Bears that escaped from a 'zoo' in Japan and apparently killed some staff, i couldn't help but recall the premise behind Richard Adams' The Plague Dogs book. I never saw the movie but i did read the book - shortly after reading Watership Down. It wasn't an easy read.

It saddens me to think that some of the Brown Bears that escaped from Hachimantai Bear park have been shot (at the latest news update I read).

I guess I could be considered a Brown Bear activist - you know me, i don't blow my own trumpet - but back in the 80's i was single-handedly responsible for closing down a small zoo in Brakpan - primarily because of the disgusting, cruel and completely sad condition of the Brown Bear 'enclosure'. Where those particular bears are today, though, remains a mystery to me. Maybe i should try and find out?

aaah ... who could forget

enjoy the weekend

is anybody out there?

Eye candy from Hubble - some old and some recent images released on the website

considering these images are taken from an area comparable to the size of less than a pinprick in the vast ocean of Space, it's inconceivable that we are the only forms of intelligent (debatable) life in the Cosmos. And if we truly are aliens supplanted here many millions of years ago (as some theorists would have it), then one has to wonder what our native home planet looks like now and where is it located?

Druid J reporting for duty

So i'm now an Ordained Clergyperson. Just need to pay up the US$90 bucks or so and i'll get my nice "Deluxe Ordination Certificate custom imprinted with my name on acid free parchment style paper, signed and embossed with raised gold seal" ... oooh, how pwitty. Myyyy Precioussss

I don't know, don't ask me why i did this.
I suppose it comes from constantly scratching about in the dark trying to figure out what is my purpose on this revolving blob in Space.
Laugh is, most Spiritual Humanists don't espouse the notion of a "God" ... which is a bit of a shame
@God is quite a cool chap (his Tweets are funny most of the time)
Not to be confused with Satanists or other Devil worshippers, SH's actually have TENETS that they are supposed to uphold, a la:

1. Behold Nature with reverence.
By instinct we are inspired by the beauty of nature – a fiery sunset, the starry night sky, springtime flowers, or autumn leaves.
2. Base religion upon Reason.
Religious truth can only be found through science, the basis of all the knowledge that makes our civilization possible.
3. Treat all people as equals.
Everyone deserves the same level of respect, opportunities, and right to be happy. No one is born as a superior to anyone else.
4. Act to reduce suffering and misery, and advance contentment, and happiness.
Everyone must obey the same standards of good and bad behavior. Doing good deeds makes the world a better place.
5. Protect things that belong to everyone.
Fresh air, clean rivers, and healthy oceans are all things that every one has a right to enjoy, and no one has a right to spoil. It’s our duty to protect these public treasures.
6. Celebrate seasons and cycles with ritual.
We are part of nature. Recognizing it brings us closer to our natural roots.
7. Cultivate spiritual abilities by application.
By practicing we can get better at being inspired and knowing our own abilities.
8. Exalt the correlation of past, present, and future.
What we do today affects the world of the future. Things done in the past like preserving the environment, finding cures for diseases, or writing an inspiring song, still help us today.
9. Champion these principles.
When you believe in something you must be ready to stand up for yourself and defend it. Otherwise some one else will step in and make things worse.
10. Improve these codes as we learn more.
Only through learning and changing our actions based on the new information can we grow and make the world better. Even our dearest beliefs must always be open to improvement.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Prof Stephen Hawkings had changed his mind about the existence or not of God and decided that there couldn't be a Universe or any Cosmic stuff going on without a Supreme Being ... God ... whatever you would like to call it/him/her. I feel a bit like that too. The whole fabric of the cosmos is (and by extension our part in it), just too fantastic and magnificent to be attributed to plain, dry, humourless old Science. Even Carl Sagan (who the SH's are wont to quote from time to time), had plenty thoughts about the existence of God in the great scheme of things and i think CS was Jewish (could be wrong on that).

oh well there's always astronomy

more psychobabbling from a Type INFP Myers Gibbs personality

We have decided to put the migration thing to the UK on hold. No i'm not happy about that one little bit.
We have reduced the price of our house and are having another (useless) showday this coming Sunday. The house has been on the market for almost a year now.
I am beginning to wonder why i was put on this earth and am beginning to lose the plot completely.
Our business is going down the toilet and we are in crisis mode.
I think i've broken two toes in my left foot - cos i dropped the hairdryer on them this morning.
it's raining and miserable weather
I am half demented crazy in love with a person who doesn't even know i exist
otherwise life is just fucking peachy isn't it?

we have a client who basically doesn't qualify to migrate to Australia unless she gets a job ... she's a single woman, accountant, pedantic and anal as fuck, old maid type of personality, penny pinching miser, no personality at all, suspicious of everyone, has delusions of grandeur and also delusions of persecution ... lovely
anyway, we find her an interview through our contacts - the job opportunity is an excellent one for her. Interview (telephonic) is set up for this Thursday morning at a time that is convenient for HER. All she has to do is phone the chap and do the interview on her cell phone ... but Oh No ... she won't be arsed to do that, will she? It's too much to phone Australia, it will cost about R100 and she isn't going to do it. HE must phone HER. What?
beats me how the fuck this bird gets through life.

Even crazier when you know that she is currently drawing about R30K a month from a family trust fund and has no financial worries whatsoever.

tuning out

where to start?
haven't posted here since February ... had plenty to say but didn't.  Am in a state of flux at the moment and utterly, thoroughly depressed today (tonight).  Will be going to pottery classes in a few minutes but am going to give in notice - dont want to be bothered with it anymore.
I can't put a finger on it ... oh yes i can ... but can't say here what's up ... just everything is going steadily down the toilet.  I am also having seriously disturbing nightmares (two nights in a row now) ... something that hasn't happened since i was a teenager. One i had last night, affected me so deeply i was in a depression rut the whole day.
oh hum
otherwise life as we know it is peachy and Beck has a new tune out ...
